Discouraged...
Well, I somehow managed to get off work for a little bit yesturday to go to the job interview. Just like any other interview, I fely nervous...maybe even a little more than I usually am. The neighborhood I went to was not as bad as I thought it would be. When I got there, they had me fill out another application for some reason, and told my interviewer that I was there. She came to get me for the interview just as I was finishing. From what I saw of the place as I was walking to her office, it was a very nice plce. It was state of the art. In her office, she had a copy of my resume, and a list of questions she needed to ask with spaces for her to fill in my answers. She was a year older than me. She asked me a question, and then would ask some of her own questions leading off of those questions. She would sometimes interrupt me to ask another question. I know I answered the questions as concise as possible, and that they were short, so it was discomforting for her to do this. I was thrown off course when she asked about my previous employment and my leaving because of management and turnover/transition times. I tried explaining to her about how I was not given the support I needed from administration regarding the children in my room, but she cut me off in the middle of my first sentence, and said that they have teachers that are off sick or on maternity leave and have to move kids to different rooms occassionally, and that it was part of the job. I started to explain again, and she cut me off. I was not prepared for that. I also wasn't prepared for the question that she asked regarding as how I would perform as an Assisstant Teacher rather than a Lead Teacher, which is what I applied for. I was thinking "Am I out of the running for a Lead position?" It just caught me off guard, and I paused slightly before answering. I left and didn't feel good about the experience. I did send a Thank You note afterward, and brought up the fact that she had questions regarding my recent employment history, and explained what has been going on, and how I felt it could have been handled differently (givng me a co-teacher for the time being that would stay in my room for the time being while they hire or having certain kids go to a different classroom for awhile). I hope that helped. The lady that I work with (whose daughter works where I interviewed)told me that her daughter didn't feel she would get the job either, but ended up getting a call. The interviwer told me that they would call me next week if they were interested in setting up a second interview. We'll see.
