A very long day!
Today I was at work at 8 AM. I went on my break from 1 to 2 PM, came back and worked until about 5:30. Took a small break, chatted with Scott, then went to a staff meeting that lasted until 9 PM!!!! I will say that the meeting was very open, and there was a lot of issues discussed. I realized from both being at work and at the meeting and (the regional manager and a lady from corporate) also noticed that there is a lot of hostility in the toddler rooms within the staff. There are differeing opinions on the use of the tot locks (a highchair that can be attached to a table). I have not seen these used in any other center I have worked at. I am conflicted. I do see the benefit of having one, like putting the unpredictible biter in it while changing diapers in order not worry about what she's doing while I can't leave the child I'm changing on the changing table. Believe it or not, but this happened yesturday (when someone against the tot locks) decided to take the ones from our room off) while I was changing a diaper our little biter got a boy right on his face. Since this was happening on the other side of the room, and I was in the middle of changing, I coiuld do nothing but yell for her to stop. On the other hand, I'm not to keen on using the tot-lock to make children sit in their chair. I believe it is like a highchair in that it doesn't teach children to sit, and the only true way to learn is given by the caregiver or even the parent. It also bothers me that some kids will never sit. There doesn't seem to be a limit to how much or long you use this device with a child, and that bothers me. There are some VERY active kids who won't sit even in the school age kids. Where do you draw the line? They don't have this in the twos, but what is the proper transitioning for this? I don't know. Sorry for rambling. I need to get to bed, so I can do it all over again.
