New Job!

Well, I started my new job this week. It has gone alright. It seems to be better than where I was before, but only time will tell. It seems laid back, however, there is one teacher (who works in another toddler room) that is a little nuts! She should be fired for stuff that she does (like falling asleep in the pre-school rooms during nap time). Her daughter is in the room I'm in and she just took her into her own room while we were outside and didn't tell anyone else she had her! She was above ratio with her daughter, and seems to be on the phone ALL the time! I was suprised to learn she's 34!!! Others have assumed that the director is afraid of her and will get in trouble for discrimination if they do anything. Other than that everything seems to be good. It is more pay than I was receiving before. My only personal complaint is that my schedule there changes daily, and I don't think I will like not knowing what my hours are for the next day until just before I leave for the night. I was put on a set schedule, but it seems as if the director and assistant director can't come to an agreement on the time I should come in. Hopefully it will all be straightened out soon. Tomorrow, it will be crazy because one of the toddler teacher's baby son is REALLY sick (he was home today with dad) and the irresponsible one won't be in until 10 because her son(whose 8) has some church thing. They are also short staffed and a lot of people have had to stay past their scheduled hours. I just hope it doesn't get to be like the old job. :(

The charter school got back to me and said that they would email me that night (her cell phone wasn't working right) and never did. I have come to the conclussion that they are unprofessional. She never gave me her email, but she has mine from the resume. Hmmmm. Should I give up on them?

Job search continues.....

Well, I interviewed at the same company I did a few weeks ago (the one that went fairly well) but a different center because they had openings. It was kind of a waste of my time to interview at the first one since she just interviewed me when they didn't have any opnings and even though she faxed all my info over...I was given the same exact interview again!!! They need someone to work in the toddler rooms (which is what I did at the job I quit) Yesturday I went and did a working interview and got to see some of the rooms. I observed 2 toddler rooms and a 2 year old room. I learned that many of the teachers were leaving and observed the teachers not paying much attention to the kids! I was the only one interacting with them in all of the rooms. In every room except the first one (which had a veteran teacher and a new person) I heard comments from them how one couldn't wait because Friday is going to be her last day, and in the twos they were talking about how the pay was higher at a different center. It didn't seem like a positive place to work. I was polite and at the end, I was told that she had another person interviewing that afternoon and that she would keep in touch. I'm not too worried since it seems as if they have more than one position open, but to be honest....I didn't like it and I wouldn't send my kid there either.

My observation of the charter school got cancelled due to school being cancelled because of the predicted huge snow storm we were supposed to get but didn't. They called me the day before to tell me they cancelled school in advance and to call them and reschedule.

Scott and I had a wonderful anniversary (it was 4 years on St. Patrick's Day). We went out to eat, and watched TV together while cuddling. It's not typical for us to cuddle while watching TV so it was a special treat. :)

More possibilities

Well, I went to another center for an interview. This one seemed much better. It was a large building. The interview went well. I liked the way that they had their curriculum set up. She told me that she was going to forward everything over to one of their other centers because she had actually had filled the position, but she wanted to interview anyway because she is unsure of one of her employees returning for medical reasons. This seems like a good backup if nothing else.

I also received a phone call from one of the schools that were at the recruitment fair last week. The school is a charter school in an urban area. The student/ teacher ratio on the DPI website is 1:31....that seems scary in ANY school let alone an urban one. I will keep my options open and maybe do some research before deciding. I don't want to pass up an opportunity simply due to my own prejudices.

Nice vacation so far...

Well, I interviewed for that school in Madison. I was VERY impressed! I spent two hours there all together. I got to view classrooms and chat with the director about many different things. She was so nice and so was everyone who worked there. The kids seemed to be very intelligent and I could tell they enjoyed learning. I was the first person she interviewed and I won't be hearing back until around Mid-March. They have more than one position open, and it's a possibility that I wouldn't have to teach summer school, and just begin teaching in fall, which Scott and I discussed wouldn't be a bad idea since that's when our lease is up here, otherwise I would be doing a lot of driving everyday (over an hour one way). I plan on finding something until fall.

I had an interview at a daycare center yesturday. It's very close to where we live, which was the only pro to working at this place, which I found out soon after arriving for the interview. The place smelled horrible!!! It smelled like urine, and my stomach was churning pretty badly while I sat in an unused classroom to fill out an application before the interview. I thought about leaving right there. The rooms seemed very small for the number of children that were there and the kids were VERY dirty! That was the worst center I've ever been in! They interview went alright and she told me I would hear from them next week regarding if they wanted me to come in for a second interview. Yuck!!! I would never subject my kid (if I had any) or anyone else's to that place!!!

I then went to a recruitment fair for some private schools in Milwaukee. Some of the schools I was planning on speaking with didn't come. I did give my resume to 2 schools. It appeared that the other schools there were high schools. Oh well. I figure it doesn't hurt to get my name out there, right?

I have another interview for a different daycare center nearby next week. Hope this one is a lot better.

I have been watching Dawson's Creek Season 5 on DVD as well as other movies through Netflix. It's been very relaxing. :)
